When I began this forum, in the interest of creating an area on the internet where other Ted Warren fans could gather, I was fairly new to forum moderator techniques. Over 2 1/2 years or so, I learned quite a bit about what it takes to keep things going and how forums can actually take on a life of their own.
One of the most disconcerting things I discovered was that knowledgeable visitors could actually gather more of an upper hand on various topics than me-- the guy who started the forum in the first place! Instead of visitors bending over backwards to help me, as I had envisioned, I became at times, the odd man out.
This is not to say that there were not very helpful visitors as well. The problem was that the mix of various approaches to my attempts to work with this forum were met with mixed reactions, including difficult ones. This mix was something that came to be very problematic. I've temporarily solved "my problem" by making this forum a soapbox for my own point of view. I intend to recreate a new methodology which will avoid some of the difficulties I've witnessed in the past.
This post is merely an update regarding my latest thoughts on how to create a useful TW forum-- one that makes me happy. |
