Hello Shawn: If you are not familiar with the language of the stock market than take the course. As Ted Warren stated: "I would rather teach someone that is a novice". If you are not a novice still take the course. The book is the psychology of the market. The course is like show and tell. Besides, you can call the course counselors any time you need help. This is great help.To get started on the ground level i recommend you start with the course, and paper trade until you have it under your belt. If you work hard at it,about three months. You can also ask questions on this forum as most of the guys and gals seem to be pretty knowledgeable. We all started from square one. Did you know that if you practice something for one hour a day, everyday, in one year you could become a master. Good Luck
