A memorial to my Cousin ( Jason West ) killed in the line of duty...
I made it for Jason's Mother, it was a very intense carving to make, NO Room for a Mistake, it had to be perfect !!!

This carving took over 6 weeks to make White Cedar 2 ft. X 4 ft. and is 4 inches deep
The cuts around and behind the wings, sward, legs, shield and banner are deep enough to put your hands behind them all done with a chainsaw !!!
The shield (Jason's Badge) has 5 levels of lettering all done with a router and knife,
(most intense)...

The feathers carved with chainsaw and detailed with a die grinder...
His body sward and banner carved with chainsaw then a lot of sanding!!!
The Face was the hardest thing to carve trying to make it look like Jason,
(thanks to Rick Boni for some help on his face)...

There is a Step by Step of this carving and the story and video on my website,
just click on deep deep relief carving...

PS. while you are reading and looking at the video, stop and think just how this world is falling apart, when a 31 year old kid gets executed while trying to help others (In the Line of Duty)...

Happy Safe Carving !!!

Hope to see you at Addison...
