mm ... finished this one a couple days ago ...
first, didn't anyone else find her children
supremely annoying? they cried all the time! and screamed in excitement when they weren't crying! and there are
four of them! i would have been driven crazy by the noise if i were their mum ...
the story was yes, rather boring ... a little incoherent too, the bits didn't seem to link together. the early episodes must have been unsatisfactory to any mi xue fan, i should think, since though she did appear the focus wasn't on her, the one having adventures and offending people and desperately trying to get jobs being alex man.
this is why parallel storylines are necessary, so that the actress you like isn't at home cooking dinner and pleading with her husband not to be a fireman, a little more drama on that front would have been much appreciated.
when, at the end, she popped up as some master piano player i was rather astounded, heh; six years is a little short for someone to learn to play that well, especially if she was taking care of children and training to be a nurse and getting married et cetera at the same time ... but hey. maybe it was the years of deeply submerged talent coming forth all at once. i was extremely touched when the doctor proposed the divorce, but the
kind of story this was (sentimental, melodramatic) made that kind of inevitable, the scriptwriters obviously felt that the overwhelming love of the main couple brooked no opposition. what i liked was what alex man said when he decided to give it up, to leave her be with the doctor -- "i understand why she can't leave him. he's our benefactor, he's saved our entire family, so that even if we aren't together at least we're safe. and i can't add to her pain." i liked the way that demonstrated a very peculiarly
chinese school of thinking, that yes, being happy is important, but more than that being responsible is what comes first. very cool ...
and oh yes,
michelle's fan -- in the last scene alex man says she married him when she was sixteen. i'm not sure why this is important to you but um yeah, i noticed he said that
