breastfeeding after TL

by

I didn't have any problem breastfeeding after having a TL following a c-section delivery (no problems related to the TL anyhow). However, my TL did fail when my daughter was 2 years old - and still nursing - and I had to make quick decisions about what meds to agree to take while being treated for a ruptured ectopic. I ended up refusing pain meds (regretfully) and methotrexate (glad I didn't take that one, it's pretty nasty) so that I could continue to breastfeed rather than abruptly wean.

If I knew then what I know now, I would've insisted on my husband getting a vasectomy, even though they were "in the neighborhood" when I had the c-section. Of course, I never gave enough thought to the chance of ectopic pregnancy then. I now know what it feels like to have something inside your body blow up, and although TL failure is just a marginal possiblity, at least if a vasectomy fails it would probably be with a normal pregnancy, rather than a potentially-life threatening (and extremely painful) surprise ectopic.

I hope you'll consider passing on the chance to have a TL if you have another c-section, but I wish you the best of luck with whatever you choose.
