depression after surgery

by

Dear Nancy,

I just had a minor operation, a hernial repair, a week ago and found your letter because I had gotten up this morning and 'Google' searched 'depression after surgery'. I thought I had read this at one time, that depression is very common after surgery, just as it is after a serious bout of the flu or more serious illness.I also am depressed, mild enough that I recognize it but still cannot control it. I have been depressed before having gotten out of an abusive marriage, in fact Paxil gave me the strength and the 'light at the end of the tunnel'. I am going to investigate and see if I can find any more info and hopefully can share it.Good luck, you have been through a lot, and curses to those doctors that don't follow up with a healthy dose of information to the patients they see and care for!!It sounds like you are doing all you can and it will maybe just be a matter of time. That sounds so trite, but I hope it is true! Chris
