What Doctors Don’t Tell You About Tubal Ligation

assure

Not as much is known about the long-term effects of this method of sterilization, but I would expect that there would be no hormonal changes as there is no loss of blood supply. Nothing is cut, and the tubes are not overly stressed (tugged and tied and cut and/or burned, all of which can damage adjoining blood vessels in addition to the tubes themselves.) Since with the assure there is only an insert, the only difference would be a blockage of the tubes. The ectopic pregnancy rate may be significantly higher since it can take 3 months for the tubes to become blocked from scar tissue, and sometime the procedure has to be repeated since the blockage is not always successful or complete. Back-up methods of birth control must be used until you are SURE that the tubes are entirely blocked to avoid an ectopic pregnancy (and possibly lose the tube or worse.) Who knows, there may even be women who's bodies reject the foreign object and develop problems from that. So, it is not a perfect method, but I did almost immediately regret not waiting and having this done instead of the tubal ligation.
