What Doctors Don’t Tell You About Tubal Ligation

Tubal Ligation that went bad!!

by D. Jones

I remember every detail as if it was last week. In 1998 my husband and I decided that we didn't want anymore children. I was 37 years old and my husband was 38 years old. I had 1 daughter at that time that was 16 years old. In 1999 I had a tubal ligation surgery. One week after the surgery I knew something was wrong. I was experiencing really bad left pelvic pains. That next week my period came on. After my period the pain slightly went away. During the weeks of pain I called the hospital because the post surgery paperwork said to call if you're experiencing pelvic pain, fever, etc. In calling the hospital they couldn't find any of my paperwork. The lady at the hospital told me to call back. Two days later I called back. This lady at the hospital told me that she couldn't find my paperwork and for me to call the clinic that I signed up with to have the tubal ligation. So I did. Needless to say I couldn't get in until a month later. The NP told me she didn't know or understand why I was in so much pain and unfortunately this clinic don’t have a doctor nor do they have the equipment to help me. They were going to send me to their sister clinic. Needless to say this took about 3 months. Meanwhile my pain was increasing. Every 2 weeks before my period my pain was worse. When I went to the sister clinic, the doctor did a pelvic exam, blood work, and sent me back to the hospital that performed the surgery to do an ultrasound. I was scared out of my mind to go back to this hospital. Anyway, I prayed and went on. Back to the sister clinic to review my ultrasound test. The doctor told me that all of my tests were good and the ultrasound showed nothing but 2 pea sizes fibroids, which should not be giving me any pain. The doctor stated he didn't know or understand why I was in so much pain and he has done all that he could do for me; I need to find an ob-gyn. I knew I didn't have benefits and I was unemployed. I also knew I didn't want to go back to the hospital ob-gyns. Months later the Lord blesses me with a job with benefits. Of course I had to wait 3 months before benefits started. Meanwhile I am taking Advil like crazy. After my 90 days probation I had a jerk for a boss who didn't want to work with me. (I think it was a personal problem). I was put on 90 days probation. I thought this can't be real. So I stuck it out and went through my second 90 day probation. I finally found an ob-gyn. I told the ob-gyn my story and she said she would help me to find out why I was in so much pain. For a year I tried at least 20 different pills, birth controls, ultrasound, pelvic exams, CT scan, MRI, GI, colonoscopy, X-rays, and pain mgmt. Still no one could tell me why I was in so much pain. In 2002 my ob-gyn did a laparoscopy surgery. It was found that the doctor made a mistake in placing the first clamp on my left tube, so she placed another clamp on the left tube to correct her mistake. The right tube clamp was placed correct. When my body was healing the left tube that had the 2 clamps was so heavy until it attached itself to my organs. Also I have 5 adhesions on the left side and 3 on the right side. My left tube was sheared off my organs and extracted, the adhesions was sheared down. After the laparoscopy surgery the pain was not like before. I/we thought it was over, but the pain got worse. It's a burning and aching pain that radiant through my back 24/7. Still until this day I have been in 24/7 pain and now hypertension. My body has been going through so many changes. I sometimes have what I call a diarrhea attack before my period. My symptoms are sharp shooting cramps, hot and cold sweats, and diarrhea. I can tell when it’s going to rain. When it rain, none of the pain medications work. Now my ob-gyn I think is at her last with me. She states that the only thing she knows to do is hysterectomy with no guarantee that the pain will stop. In a catch 22 situation, somebody please help!!
