My wife had a tubal ligation at 39 years old on October 1st 1999 in the hospital the morning after our son was born. It has changed her quality of life, our lives, and marriage for the worse, driving my wife into hormone hell. I asked the Dr. several times throughout the pregnancy if there were any problems or long term side effects caused by this surgery, and each time he said no, or said the only side effect would be that she would not get pregnant. She immediately had problems, from heavy periods to rage to depression to low milk supply to most of the other symptoms. My wife had her hormones tested, and she was not making any progesterone, indicating that she wasn't ovulating anymore. She had a reversal done in July 2001, and also started using natural progesterone cream, which both have helped. But nothing will ever be the same as it was before the tubal ligation. She was even able to get pregnant twice after the reversal, but lost both. This, come to find out, is another bad side effect of tubal ligations and then reversals, the miscarriage rate is much higher because the hormones never get completely back to where they need to be. Doctors who do this surgery and say there are no side effects are lying, because a tubal ligation by design destroys the tubal artery, which cuts off some (and sometimes most) of the blood supply to the ovaries. It's a racket, with the Dr.'s guaranteeing return business from the problems they cause on the unsuspecting women. I wonder how many divorces they have caused?????
There is a real good book entitled "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, MPH, and also the Taking Charge of Your Fertility (Ovusoft)Software, which tracks your cycle and lets you know the fertile and infertile days. My wife and I are using this software to help us try to have another baby, after having a tubal reversal for PTLS. Taking Charge of Your Fertility can also be used for birth control, and is a chemical and surgery free option. It's real easy once you learn, not as hard as you would think.....
If your husband wants to keep the same woman he married, don't get your tubes tied. This surgery will change your life forever, and not for the better.
