What Doctors Don’t Tell You About Tubal Ligation

I had a bad feeling but did it anyway

by

I had a tubal ligation about 19 years ago at the age of 33, after being assured that there were no negative side effects. Within months I was diagnosed with clinical depression and had to quit my job as a social worker because I was having trouble coping. My kids were 4 and 7 at the time. I have always suspected that the depression was triggered by the TL and have only recently had my suspicions confirmed since reading about PTLS. The funny thing is that, for some reason, I knew I shouldn't go ahead with it, even as they were wheeling me in to the operating room...my instincts were telling me not to do it but I didn't listen and I have regretted it ever since. I am now 52, I have been on antidepressants ever since and I have gained 65 lbs. and I gain more every year. (even though I was always very thin before the TL). My life is definitely not the same as it would have been as I have been unable to persue my career and the mood swings and weight gain have caused problems. And the latest thing is that I've been having severe abdominal pain in the past couple of years which has remained undiagnosed...now I'm wondering if that's somehow related to the TL. Sometimes I almost think that if I happenned to die in my sleep it wouldn't be such a bad thing. I am going to have my hormone levels checked by a FEMALE in a women's health clinic soon and am hoping hormone replacement therapy will help. I'm just SO tired of struggling...but luckily I am married to an extremely patient and understanding guy. (too bad he hadn't had HIS "tube" tied 19 years ago....! Has anyone HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH HOW MENOPAUSE PLAYS INTO THIS? DOES IT MAKE THINGS BETTER OR WORSE? THANKS FOR THE INFO EVERYONE AND GOOD LUCK!
