1.- America- technologically advanced with a large force and no shortcomings or weaknesses.

2.-britain.- extremely good forward projection force and huge navy as well as nuclear ability.

3.-russia.- still a massive arsenal with huge manpower reserves and fairly well trained.

4.-china- huge manpower ability and obtaining technology at a good rate.

5.- france.- projection ability, well trained and has nukes.

6.-india- new to nuclear club but has large army.

7.- israel.- highly doubt even a superpower could successfully invade her even conventionally without losing a few battles. israel has nukes.

8.-north korea.- fierce fighters, huge artillery, may have nuclear capability.

9.- japan.- huge navy.

10.australia- modernized force well trained but smaller than most other developed nations.

please critique my list and add your own rankings.

honorable mention: lebanon.

dead last-albania.

Anglophile in your best Air forces you got all those countries from Germany to ten,,,

and u havent mentioned Greece and Turkey,,,

they belong in the top 5 best air forces, in quantity and quality...much better than UK with her Tornados...

Greece or Turkey could crush the british with their air forces as it stands.

How is Brazil, Italy, Turkey, NorthKorea put up there especially in terms of Army and defensive ability yet Iran is not??
650,000 forces with another 300, or 400,000 in reserve.
Basij volunteers in the millions. (same guys who would run over land mines.)
Extensive influence and control inboth Afghanistan and Iraq (Badr brigade as well).
Control proxy of Lebanon and hizbollah in its palm (the only 'arab' force to have beaten israel in a war, was hizbolla ousting israel out of lebanon because of Iranian help).

wow , I typed that much? hehe

lol... Greece and Turkey have les AEW, less air to air refueling, and their pilots aren't trained to the same standard. And Britain has more combat aircraft than they do. Not to mention they have a better strike aircraft in the GR4... Also... people underestimate the quality of British aircraft. The Tornadoes and jaguars are excellent fighters... and they are all updated with the latest avionics. They are just as capable as F-16's

Also... Britain is getting 232 EF-2000's in the next five years... not to mention the JSF in a decade or so.

Well I think Mike is right to kick Germany out of his top ten list.

Germany today is a demilitarized society. (like most states in Europe)
The German equipment is very old and in a bad condition. Half of the aircrafts and helicopters which are in all the lists cannot fly in reality.
There are always some problems.

With the Transall, CH 53, Sea King and the Bell UH 1 D. This stuff is about 30 years old.

And the army material like lorries and tanks are also mostly from the 80ies.

Todays german military is only a shadow of the Cold war strengh and if you look back in history of WW2 or WW1.

It would take 5 to 10 years and a total change in politics to make the German military again to what is once. I sometimes have the impression that Germany has still the WW2 bonus and the rememberance of the past strengh by foreigners. But this over 50 years ago and in these times another generation lived with other values than todays democratic, weak and pacifistic-to-the-bone Germans.
