China has a rough road ahead of the carrier game... Many other countries in the west have many and different types of carriers. If this is China's first carrier of many, they have a lot to learn, Heck even Canada had a few carriers at one point during the late 40's-60's.... Like China's foreign trade surpassed Japan last year, and we are growing 36% in Foreign Trade in the first 3 months in 2004.
When we are in 2010, China may start to build up a carrier group for Southern China Sea.

Operational no, but China has the ex-USSR navy carriers Minsk and Varyag, and ex-RAN carrier HMAS Melbourne. The Melbourne is useless for operations, but the Minsk and Varyag could be refitted relatively easily IMHO. Both are over 90% complete, but if they were to be used I think it would be most likely as amphibious assault platforms.
