LONDON, May 18 (Xinhuanet) -- The British Ministry of Defense saidon Tuesday that at least one British soldier had been arrested in connection with faked Iraqi prisoner torture pictures that were published by the British Daily Mirror newspaper.

According to the ministry, the soldier was being questioned by the Special Investigations Branch of the military.

The arrests were a routine part of the British military's investigation into the alleged abuses by British troops of Iraqi prisoners, and no charges were immediately filed, the ministry said in a statement.

The British government announced last Thursday that pictures published by the Daily Mirror that showed a hooded man being struck with a rifle butt, urinated on and having a gun held to hishead, apparently by British soldiers, were "categorically not taken in Iraq."

Following the announcement, the tabloid apologized last Friday over publication of "fake" photos and Piers Morgan, its editor whostaunchly defended the photos, stepped down on the same day.

On May 1, The Daily Mirror published the pictures from British soldiers, days after images of US troops torturing and abusing Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad were revealed. Enditem

The REporter should be stripped of his job and never be able to become a reporter again for not verifying the photos. It makes UK look bad for something they have not actually done like the Americans.

but unrespectable papers (usually tabloids) create news to put in. they are unrealible and have a bad reputation so Times and companies similiar print unbiased, unchanged reporting without an opinion.

UK newspapers all have a bias, some more extreme than others, no matter how respected they are - telegraph has a strong conservative leaning, hence the colloquial name torygraph. observer and guardian are more labour leaning, but less so lately ive sort of noticed.

but you are right, the sun and mirror and mail are bastards.

UK media deserves no respect,,,

just like those reporters that tried to degrade and expose greece for the olympics,,,they tried to sneack in at night time in the olympic facilities in greece trying to show the world that they are not secure and that anyone could enter..they got caught all times...the bad thing is that the greek government did put them to jail...to give those bastards a lesson....

This really disgrace USA human rights.

I think if now USA tries to sell Human Rights stuff to other counties, they will feel shame to sell and be told to shut up.
