Two Greek air force pilots were killed June 15 when their F-4 fighter plane crashed on the Greek mountain of Parnassos, around 150 kilometers (90 miles) northwest of Athens.
The plane belonged to the Greek air force and was on a training flight, an air force spokesman said.
The pilots’ charred bodies were discovered with the plane, which crashed at high altitude in an inhabited area on the slopes of the 2,400-metre (7,200 feet) tall mountain, near the Parnassos ski resort. An Investigation to determine the cause of the crash was underway.
Accidents involving Greek air force planes frequently occur. Greek fighter pilots put in many hours of training as they are frequently involved in dogfights with Turkish fighter planes in disputed airspace above the Aegean Sea, which separates the two countries.
