Under the "global fight against terror" and NATO obligations, the US Defense Department has notified congress of a $96 million sale to Turkey of 225 AIM-9X Sidewinder air-air missiles. The US Defense Department has stated that the sale would not effect the region's military balance nor hamper peace initiatives on Cyprus. The missiles will be used with the soon to be modernized F-16's.

Turkey's air-to-air missile inventory is:

AIM 120A/B AMRAAM - 314 - 176 AIM 120A + 138 AIM 120B

AIM 7E Sparrow - 367

AIM 9M Sidewinder - 500

AIM 9L/I Sidewinder - 640

AIM 9S Sidewinder - 310 - From AIM-9M without IRCCM

AIM 9P3 Sidewinder - 750+

Nothing will be safe over the Aegean with these babies.

I am not so sure about that, especially the AIM-7Es which are old technology.  If you are alluding to Greece being the potential adversary, they have the Eurofighter which is more advanced than anything currently in Turkey's arsenal, not to mention that it was designed by engineers with much more priviledged access to US technology than what Turkey can access.

Now if you are alluding to Russia, I would have to argue that Russia's best aircraft match up more favourably against Turkey than vice-versa.  The MiG-31 fires the AA-9, the reverse-engineered AIM-54 Phoenix which has the longest range in the world for AAM.  I would also have to argue that even the F-16 Bloc 52 is not as good as the Su-35, which have thrust-vectoring.  The F-16 is also not as good as the latest Su-30s IMHO.

Greece does not have the ef2000 and turkish aircraft are not good enough to handle either greek or russian aircraft.

Where did you read that the Greeks have a better Airforce than Turkey? WHERE DID YOU READ THAT? I said they have better aircraft than you, because they have new Block52, which has the deep penetration capability of the F-15 with a smaller payload.

Turkey really has a major problem on its hands, the Greeks have a lot of aircrafts and are causing the Turks to focuse on the Aegean. Russia will rape anything over Eastern Anatolia because there are no aircraft there.

In the Aegean, with Greece having a good strik aircraft, the chances of them winning if they strike first are very high. Although it is a tie, Turks do have more aircraft, but not enough to have such a overwhelmingly dominant airforce.

The average personal income in Turkey is about 1/3 that of most EU countries, including Greece. But they keep taxing the people and spending money on arms that they don't need. So, who's the threat to Turkey? Greece isn't interested in war. Russia isn't. Syria is no threat. But the Turk generals want to keep buying top of the line stuff.

So, they're buying top of the line sidewinders and doing expensive upgrades on their F-16's. Instead of using the money to build civilian infrastructure and fund improved health care for their people. Turks never change.

E Tan, E Epi Tas!

To call the Turks militaristic would be wrong. They are not militaristic because they are not organized. Look at Germany, clean and organized: Russia, England, and France. All clean european countries that have a military tradition.

Turkey, has mongolic traditions. It judges physical strength over mental strength. Whilst Europeans use their minds AND their strength to overcome problems, the Turks use their numers to flood the enemy. No Tactics.

A Greek guy I know said it well, Greeks and Armenians are middle eastern, Turks are just black.

I am going to combat Mundine's future response of Turkey being European with this: There is no definition of true European. If European is Germanic culture, that makes southern Europe non european. Greece itself is not like a Germanic state. Greece is its own type of Europe, like Italy. There are two types of Europeans, Northern and Southern. The North takes value in industry and ideology while the south takes pride in culture and arts. Turkey, does not take pride in the sciences and Turkey does not really have cultural pride. Turkey just cares about having the biggest guns and winning some stupid pissing contest.
