@Lion

"the US is just too frigging rich. what a fortune all these choppers must have been!"

- I tell you; if USA today fighting a major power house liken France or China(instead of 2 bit Iraq), me think America will be in deep doo dooo land!

- If you look at these stats closely; American lost more Helicopters against these armed insurgents, then during the entire war against Saddam troops(during GWII)! That is scary; for the insurgents is here to stay!

According to this list the US military has lost 31 helicopters of various types in Iraq, which is about half of Canada's helicopter fleet.  Consider that Iraq did not even have functioning artillery (according to on article Hadi posted) then can you imagine the losses the US would suffer at the hands of Iran?  I am sure even North Korea could inflict heavier losses.

Well the thing is, that Helocopters are pretty soft targets, a wel lshot RPG or some AK-47 shooting at it, and it'll go down. No to mention that chopper pilots have little idea of what they're getting into , where fire will come from etc...

Against a power like France, in a conventional war, Sure they would loose choppers, but they would also be more careful on how and when to use them.
