At my college there is an annual thing called the SAE fraternity boxing tourney. Pretty much fraternities come out and box each other and the money goes to charity usually anywhere from 40 to 60,000 is raised. I've just started training 4 days a week at a public boxing gym and wanted to see if anyone had some pointers. I am 5'7 and fighting in the jr. welterweight division, 139-141 lbs. Some of the guys are going to have some reach on me so I wanted to see what I should do to counter that. So far we have started out with conditioning, then move on to some shadowboxing, then get on the heavy bag for about 5 reps, then work on some footwork. Havent started sparring yet and probably wont for another 2 weeks or so. Any help would be welcomed.

yeah you doing all that other stuff thats good when your training do all your reps and all your work out shiot fast because when you train fast youll be fast and speed is something you need to be good at so when somebody throws punches at you you can dodge and counter b4 they know whats going on. sparing is very important in boxing when you do start sparing whatch what your opponet is doing whatch for what combos are coming and when your shadow boxing learn how to counter all the basics like left hook, right hook, upper cut and all the stuff. when your boxing if you get hit big dont let enybody know that it hurt you much and keep you composure and stance dont let you eyes off you opponet whatch what his hands are doing and react to him movements and shiot like that dont stop moving either its way harder to hit somebody who wont stop dancing around the ring for good advice watch the ALI fight whatch what he did he danced around and when he saw a opening he took it with a fast jab. now about the reach there is really nothing you can do about it you probably need to stay in close when you boxing dont fight a distance fight keep it close learn how to fight a close battle for the people with the long reach that is what i always did when i was out reached it really suck fighting the taller guy but dotn look at it like that go in confident like you've beaten this guy b4 and you will do goo aiight cya
