Trying To Learn How To Box. (but difficult to go to gym)

Hey, I would like to take up boxing, not as a sport but rather as a means of defending myself. I am not trying to look for fights...no, I'm not that type of person. To tell the truth, I've never even been in a serious fight before. I would just like to have the personal satisfaction of knowing that when it comes time for me to defend myself, I will know what to do. I would like to go get proper training, but I don't have much money and don't have time to go to gyms because of my studies and my lack of transportation. I don't own a credit card either so ordering tapes or other services online is not feasible. What should i do?

Hi there, just read your message. ive been boxing for a number of years now and tell you the truth i dont feel any different than i did before walking down the street. being nervous about unwanted confrontations will never change whether you can fight or not. gyms all over these days are full and if let in to train it is likely you will be expected to box for them in competition. i would recommend you get yourself in there and have a go see whether you liked it or not, i do! good luck! dave

Thanks for the tip Dave. I guess the only way for me to actually see is to get to a gym.
