Take look at this photo of Sam Lanin's Famous Players in 1928 (from "The Dance Bands" by Brian Rust, Arlington House Publishers, New Rochelle, NY 1972.)
Look at the first guy on the left. Does he look like Bix to you? He does to me. I know it is not Bix. Who is he?
What about the other musicians? According to Rust's disco, the "Famous Players" at one time or another in 1928 were Red Nichols, Sam Lewis, Larry Abbott, Andy Sanella, Merle Johnston, Arthur Schutt, Harry Reser, Joe Tarto, Jimmy Dorsey, Hymie Farberman, Norman Yorke, Bill Wirges, Glenn Miller, Jimmy McPartland, Phil Napoleon, Harold Peppie, Tommy Dorsey, Leo McConville, Rube Bloom, Hank Stern, Tony Colucci, Stan King and even Bing Crosby!! Do you see any of these guys in the photo? Sam Lanin is the guy in the center with glasses.
Albert
