Sorry Scott, i guess it didn't materialize this time

<And I thought we were in for another round of Linda bashing>
Sorry to disappoint you Scott but i guess this time the bashing didn't materialize.
But i knew that i was able to predict accurately when i read the theme or idea of this thread which was "Demolishing One of Bix’s Myths: Bix Was Not A Passive Individual". I knew there was going to be a heap of trouble and arguing over it.
When we get into discussing Bix's character we delve into a grey area where none of us actually knew the man and have to draw our own conclusions. And disagreements are going to come.
Tim told me too "stay out of that one, eventually the stones are going to start flying."
But i just couldn't. I saw the post's topic as a good chance to present the McIntosh interview information on the Jimmy Dorsey reefer incident. The discussion got started as to whether or not Bix was a passive individual which involves his character.
Since a discussion got going about his character i had the opportunity to jump in and make my observation that Bix, because of his alcoholism, had mean pranks played on him by musicians.
I pointed out how Red Nichols had observed how jealous musicians got Bix loaded then made fun of his playing.

And this now has got me going on something else.
By observing the actions of other 1920's musicians toward Bix we can or maybe can learn of those who were not jealous and acted professionally and those who didn't act professionally and were possibly jealous.
Of course we can say the ones playing the mean pranks were not jealous at all but just mean in general.
But also-Maybe- the ones who played nasty pranks on Bix were jealous of him.
At the very least we can identify Red Nichols and Mannie Klein as honorable musicians who were angered at any nasty pranks played on Bix and those like Jimmy Dorsey who shamefully did that nasty prank on Bix.
Maybe this is just a stupid unfounded theory and if you want to bash me for it that is ok but i wanted to present the possibility that maybe by observing the actions of other musicians toward Bix we can draw a line of who was his friend and who wasn't.

Linda
