I'm not trying to prove anything, I am simply ....

.... pointing out the fact that, because of the fabrications in Berton's "Remembering Bix" and its popularity, a false image of Bix has been created in the minds of many people interested in learning about Bix.

As to the relations of Bix with his family, those who claim that they were strained are indulging in the sad phenomenon of Bixing.

Get a load of what Bix's mother said in an interview (The Davenport Democrat and Leader April 25, 1928),

“We can always tell when Bix’s horn comes in,
”says his mother. “We know every time Paul
Whiteman’s orchestra is on the air and Leon
knows we’ll be listening in. "The air is carried
out by the other cornetist but the sudden
perky blare and the unexpected trills-those
are the jazz parts and they are Leon's."

Note that Agatha says "we." Moreover, pray, tell me how could Agatha recognize Bix in the jazz parts if she had not listened to his records? The story of the unopened records is, I am pretty certain, another example of Bixing.
