Yes, I've seen the Cy Laurie Band a few times. Once I ventured down into his basement Club in Gt. Windmill Street, just off Piccadilly Circus. It was in 1957 and a very hot Summers Day. The temperature down there was almost unbearable and it was packed out! He was renowned for his being able to do a very good impression of the great Johnny Dodds. He was also exceedingly slim. That's how he acquired the above description. Most of the numbers his Band played were from the 1920's. That's why I preferred listening to his Band. It made a pleasant change from Mark One British Trad discussed in previous postings. I've seen his Band a few times in the Jazz Club in the White Hart, Southall in West London. Alex would know that Club. Chris Barber's Band was there most Wednesdays.
