Well, the entire movie was over the top, as it was meant to be. I adored Johnny's portrayal. It was brilliant. He was taking that hokey, overly sincere, bad acting that you'd see in a B-movie (or Ed Wood film) and used it for his Ed portrayal. It was totally in the spirit of Burton's film. (And yes, Landau was an absolute scream - no wonder he won the Oscar!)
By the way, my cousin and I rented "Plan 9 From Outer Space" one Halloween, thinking we'd have a screaming good time (screaming in laughter that is) and it was truly so bad, it wasn't even funny. I was bored out of my mind. I didn't expect that. It was just painful.
