It's not so much that Sandy was 'superior' to Cy, they were on different planets. Yes, John R T was in the Laurie band at one period, around the early 50s I think, before he joined Sandy. One has to be very careful about Cy's recordings. A few years ago I heard a record by the Laurie band, with Al Fairweather on trumpet, and I thought Whow, Cy really got it together there,sounding more like Dodds than I ever heard him, either in the flesh or on record. Recently I saw on another site that Sandy played on a couple of Laurie sides - with his sidekick Al - but they were issued as being Cy. I don't know how true that is but it would certainly explain those sides.
Ken, you obviously missed the excellent Mike Daniels Band of those days, the Steve Lane Band, the Sandy Brown Band and several others. None of them playing 'Trad' Yes, I remember the club, but there were so many in those days.
