Benny Goodman's First Recordings...

by

...under his name. I will preface the following by saying that D. Russel Connor knew Benny. And stipulate that RedHotJazz can't spell "Clarinetitis".

It would seem that D. Russel Connor (BG: On the Record) was at odds with Brian Rust , Tom Lord, RedHotJazz, and Vocalion Records when it comes to putting a date to this subject. The first BG records under Benny's name are:

"That's aPlenty" and
"Clarinetitis" (sidebar: first BG composition, also first ever BG Trio)"

Connor says: Recorded Chicago Feb 1927

Rust, Lord, RedHotJazz, and Vocalion say: Recorded Chicago June 13, 1928

According to Connor in his book (1978), Benny's "positive" and "adamant position" was that the date was Feb 1927. Also stated is that the Pollack Band was known to be at the Southmoor Hotel Chicago, in Feb, 1927. Connor suggests a mixup existed in Vocalion's studio bookkeeping.

Herewith, Benny cl, Mel Stitzel p, Bob Conselman d, and recorded in (?)
"That's Aplenty" and "Clarinetitis"
