From the Horse’s Mouth.

In his autobiography "Kingdom of Swing," Benny Goodman writes,

"Also I had made some connections around town, and made my first records in my own name. The date was at American Records Company, for Vocalion, and I had an idea for a solo called "Clarinetitis," with Bob Conselman on drums, and Mel Stitzel, of the old Rhythm Kings, on piano. The funny part about this was that the first thing I did on my own was a trio, which tied in later when I started making so many things with Gene Krupa and Teddy Wilson. Also the date led to some further records when I came to New York, under the name of "Benny Goodmans Boys." Which were the first band recordings that came out with my name on them."

This was written in the section where Benny recalls events that took place in Chicago in the Spring of 1927, so this chronology fits with Connors assignment of Feb 1927 as the recording date for "Clarinetitis" and "Thats A Plenty." However, I note that the first Benny Goodman's Boys records were made in Chicago on Jan 23, 1928. The second set of Benny's Boys records were waxed in New York on June 4, 1928.

I looked up recordings of Benny Goodman in 1927-1928 to determine where he was at this time. (From Lords discography)

Dec 17, 1926 Chicago
Jun 24, 1927 Chicago
Jul 7, 1927 Chicago
Dec 7, 1927 Chicago
Jan 23, 1928 Chicago
Mar 21, 1928 New York
Apr 6, 18, 19, 26, 1928 New York
May 1, 3, 1928 New York
Jun 4, 1928 New York
Oct 1, 15, 16, 21, 1928 New York

If Benny recorded "Clarinetitis" on Jun 13, 1928 in Chicago, it means Benny had to leave New York, go to Chicago, record the two sides and get back to New York. There is a large gap in the discography, so it is possible. Does anyone have a detailed chronology of Benny so we can find out where he was precisely on Jun 13, 1928?

I looked up the record and matrix numbers in Rust.

Recorded in Chicago June 13, 1928
C-4035-A; E-7397 Clarinetitis Voc 15705.
C-4036-A; E-7398 Thats A Plenty Voc 15705.

Would this help establish the date and place by comparing with matrix and record numbers of other Vocalions? Why two matrix numbers?
