Note that the drummers and the pianists assigned to the April 17, July 7 and Sep 21, 1928 sessions are not the same as generally accepted. I go by the discography in the Mosaic set.

Only differences are given.

For April 17. Mosaic gives Roy Bargy on piano. Essential Jazz Records gives Tom Satterfield.

For July 7, Mosaic gives Roy Bargy on piano. Essential Jazz Records gives Lennie Hayton.

For September 21, Mosaic gives Lennie Hayton on drums. Essential Jazz Records gives George Marsh.

I discussed the drummers in Bix and Tram and Bix and His Gang recordings in an article in the IAJRC Journal. Available in the internet at

I don't agree with the statement that "Short-lived he [Bix} never found his true musical milieu. Perhaps he had no clear idea of what it ought to have been."

Bix did not have a single interest in music. He had a variety of musical preoccupations. Bix had several environments, each suited him at the time: the early Bix with the Wolverines playing sock time; the dance band Bix with Goldkette; the jazzy Bix with Tram and the Gang; the Bix who added a surprising and extemporaneous dimension to the excellent arrangements in Whiteman recordings, the composer of impressionistic piano pieces, etc.

I found a very interesting statment in the review. In my article "Margie and Bix: The Anatomy of a Song," IAJRC Journal, Dec 2008

http://bixbeiderbecke.com/MargieAnatomy.html

I wrote, "I have not found why the record was not released in 1928-1929." Here there is a suggestion as to why the record was not released, "... musical lapses, as notably at the end of Margie..." Randy Sandke told me once that Bix goes off key at one point in "Margie." Can the musicologists help here?
