The Cradle of Love question . . . once again!

by

Regarding "Cradle of Love", firstly Miller wouldn't have the luxury of two cornet soloists. I've not heard the record right through, but it's generally accepted the second cornet chorus isn't Spanier. The solo does sound like Bix in places but overall it's not quite his style or tone. Even a Bix feeling very ill. J.P. Lion suggests Bix could have even "disguised" his playing as he was still contracted to Whiteman. He concludes Bix's presence could be a tantalising possibility. In the end we are left only with our ears to decide. We all want it to be Bix (like on "End of the Road") but there's always going to be that doubt in our minds.
