Cradle of Love . . . just perhaps

by

Let's assume that J.P. Lyon in his Bix Bio is correct when he states it's just possible that Bix, on his way back to Davenport in an attempt to recover his full health, did go via Chicago to change trains. While there just by chance he happened to meet up with Muggsy and some of the Boys. Perhaps they spent an hour or two in a speakeasy. Whoever the arranger was of "Cradle of Love", the second solo is been scored with a sax section backing, so there was a solo written for someone already in the arrangement. Perhaps a trombone or clarinet chorus. When the boys came in the Brunswick Studio with Bix in tow, it may have been decided by those in authority to substitute Bix. He was here so why not? He would have been regarded by the boys as their hero and the opportunity to record with him just couldn't be missed. Even if he was feeling well below par. That's what the Solo sounds like, just that. Not the brilliant Bix of a year earlier but Bix nevertheless. That's just my opinion. I expect to be shot down by other Forumites. But hey, that's what the Forum's for.
