Ahola Tour De Force

by

I am curious about the track on the Retrieval CD set of the Rhythmic Eight entitled: "Can't Help Lovin That Man." I have always felt this to be a masterpiece of cornet accompanyment by Sylvester Ahola. Is it somewhat Bixian in its restraint, feel for tone shadings, and masterful control of form? (Am I right, here Bix fans?) I have always been surprised it is not mentioned more often in jazz histories of the period, as a master work of its kind.

Albert, is much said about this track in the liner notes to the CD? How is the sound? The "Mellotone" CD uses an unfortunately, worn 78 copy and some of the shading of tone is lost.
