I haven't got the Ladnier bio - bit too expensive for me - so I don't know if that gives a exact date when he was back in the States. But 'summer' could equally mean July or even June. My old London LP. Johnny Dodds Vol.3 gives Ladnier and says, talking about Dodds: 'he is heard at his best playing the most intricate phrases around Tommy Ladnier's typically fine cornet lead.' By the old ear test, it sounds to me to be too much like Tommy than to be anyone else.
