This article was 1961, right? Height of the Cold War -- which doesn't make the content any funnier. Just more ridiculous paranoia from them thar days with jingoistic quasi-patriots believing that "The Russkies" were taking over "everything", including trying to take credit for good old American jazz and blues.
Really, I think the American media 50 and 60 years ago poked more cruel -- stupidly cruel -- fun at Russians than the other way around (as well as their rabidly virulent paranoia), and aimed more at the USSR than at people of other communist countries. This guy writing this "humorous" editorial probably had his underpants in a twist about the space race, Castro's Cuba, "The Bomb" and all the other concerns flag waving Americans were obsessing upon during the time I was born. But at least by the mid-60's we kids starting school weren't hearing "Watch out! The Russians are gonna get ya," anymore.
This editorialist sure made our jazz heroes sound like they were totally out to lunch, too. Even in Heaven. Not funny!
