I was howling at Pat Boone's exaggerated 1970's style outfit and haircut. Those ENORMOUS lapels!
But ol' Bing was classy. As a 50ish adult I can certainly appreciate him now, when as kids we just thought he was an old square who did orange juice commericals. Kept his voice, too.
It's almost startlingly beautiful how Bix's horn rang out over the TV studio in the Mississippi Mud recording; how in just an abrupt sample of music his playing stands out with such superior clarity -- and Bing nodding and saying, "That cornet was Mr. Beiderbecke." I'm glad he made a point of mentioning him.
