I have over 40 CDs of Bix recordings, including the Proper and JSP box sets. As one can imagine, the quality of the transfers from the 78 rpm originals depends on the tastes of the producers and engineers who are responsible for the CDs. I wonder what opinions are as to the best transfers. At the moment I'm listening to the two 'official' Columbia CDs from issued in 1990. They sound 'reasonable', considering their origin. I once had several of the original pressings and, played on professional broadcast turntables and amplifiers, had a sparkle that I don't hear on CDs.It's now 2017 and I'm wondering if there's been any advance in technology that would allow engineers to produce even better results. Am I asking too much? Opinions, please!
