Red Norvo's recording of "In A Mist."

by Albert Haim

I am pretty sure that most of you know about Red Norvo's recording of Bix Beiderbecke's "In A Mist." It is one of the early recordings of Bix's composition (the second!).
Red Norvo
Benny Goodman (b-cl) Red Norvo (xyl, mar) Dick McDonough (g) Artie Bernstein (b)
New York, November 21, 1933
B14361-A In a mist (*) Br 6906
What you may not know is that Red Norvo made an earlier attempt -unfortunately unsuccessful- at recording "in A Mist."
Red Norvo (xyl, mar) solos; rest unknown
Chicago, c. October 1929
In a mist (unissued) Brunswick
Here is Red Norvo's 1933 recording of "In A Mist." He sticks to the written score fairly closely. The marimba gives an ethereal sound to Bix's composition.
