Booker T. Wingfield's nephew

by Sven Bjerstedt

The passengers info. provides the name of Booker T. Wingfield's father who accompanied him home from Italy: Judge Randolph WIngfield, b. 1874.

Even though the year of birth differs, this is probably the same man:
Judge Randolph Wingfield (b. Dec. 24, 1875; d. Mar. 8, 1950).

Further, this ought to be Booker T. Wingfield's elder sister:
Dr. Alice Olenza (Wingfield) Smothers, Texan pioneer of education (b. Aug. 15, 1899 in Greenville, AL).

On the same website, there is a 2009 photograph of her son (and, in all probability, Booker T. Wingfield's nephew) Benjamin Smothers:

It seems that in 2009, Benjamin Smothers lived in Palestine:

(Note that according to these websites, the father Judge Randolph Wingfield studied with and was friends with Booker T. Washington.)

As far as I can tell, a Benjamin Weldon Smothers (b. 1934) is still listed as living in Malakoff, TX, and Palestine, TX. He might perhaps be able to provide further information about his uncle.
