Two other interesting soloists on this recording

(1) Louis Bacon, trumpet--he had developed a style of his own out of Louis Armsstrong's. He had worked with Armstrong himself as well as Ellington, Chick Webb, and others. A good example of his work is "Hi Diddle Diddle" with Alix Combelle and Freddy Johnson's band, Paris, June 28, 1939.

(2) Ernst Hollerhagen, clarinet--probably the best jazz clarinetist in Germany in the 1930's, who understandably enough concluded that the Third Reich was no place for a Benny Goodman disciple and moved to Switzerland. A couple of samples of his work under his own name:
