The Jack Donaldson you see listed as a saxophonist with the Quinquaginta band was the same man who became Baron Donaldson of Kingsbridge, Minister for the Arts in James Callaghan's Labour government during the late seventies. He had a huge number of public roles, ranging from President of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds to directorships on the boards of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Sadler's Wells Ballet. In much younger days, he'd worked for a year as a truck driver. I seem to remember reading that in his undergraduate days, he was also a noted step-dancer. You don't get many like him.
