Chris is absolutely right of course. Besides, Albert's research leads to the conclusion that Bix had nothing to do with the "garage incident" and that the case was dismissed.
Bix was send to Lake Forest because he was lazy in school and hung out in Jazz joints instead of doing his homework; exactly the same reasons why I was send to boarding school when I was 16.
Bix drank because he hang out in those places, because there was prohibition (one of the most important causes for widespread alcoholism in the US during the 1920's)and because of his artistic mind.
Let's remain realistic about the guy and create no more fairy-tales of Bix being a sad, suffering outcast; he was not.
