I have written at length on this forum of the moral wrongness of prying into Bix's personal affairs. I know that Albert is in agreement with most of the points I made, and it must truly have pained him to initiate this thread. However, he did it to stave off further damage that might have arisen from the perpetuation of groundless rumours.
There is no way to know for certain at this late date what the truth of this matter was. However, the few recorded facts, as well as knowledge of the sweet and kindly nature of Bix's character, must lead us to the conclusion that the "case" was founded upon nothing of any substance.
Bix's music (which, I agree, is all we need to know about him), while often tinged with melancholy, was certainly not indicative of a "tortured" personality. It is reasonably clear that Bix was one of those unfortunate individuals with a genetic predisposition to alcoholism as a chemical dependency.
Those who have expressed glee at seeing Bix's privacy further invaded here should be ashamed of themselves for contaminating his memory with their grotesque speculations.
