This one is SO difficult. On China Boy, from the same session, it's obviously Bix soloing and Andy playing the four bar intro to Bix's solo. The soloist on "When My Dreams Come True" sounds like the 4-bar intro man, i.e. Secrest. The soloist on "Reaching For Someone" SOUNDS like the same guy to me, but the construction of the solo is very Bixian. The trouble is, we don't have too much open horn Bix from this period to do a comparison, so it's hard to say how much his health problems and the lay-off may have affected his open tone. Perhaps a useful comparison would be with "Futuristic Rhythm". Even better BOTH takes of "Futuristic Rhythm" (PLEASE don't keep us waiting much longer Origin!!!!!)
I don't have it to hand at the moment, but there was an article about Andy Secrest in a 1960s edition of Storyville magazine by Dick Sudhalter. Regarding "Reaching For Someone", Dick said that he preferred to hear Bix, but that other "responsible authorities" (I think those were his words) preferred to hear Secrest.
