I would like to mention the Ruth Shaffner pregnancy incident. IF a letter could be produced from the Phil Evans collection that was a letter written by Ruth Shaffner to Phil Evans after the book came out and in the content of the letter she complained that the pregnancy issue included in the book never happened and further she and her sisters were deepy hurt by this fabrication and that she never even hinted at such a thing to Evans I think Sudhalter would be on the hot seat. I have a suspicion that just such a letter actually exists and someday it will come out because I think Evans was very close to the Shaffner sisters (see page 340 of Man and Legend) and that Ruth Shaffner read the book and hit the roof when she read that pregnancy thing. She just didn't leave it alone. I think she wrote Evans complaining about it.
I also think a copy of a letter exists by Evans to Ruth Shaffner apologizing and saying he didn't come up with that and he would never have allowed that to be published if he knew about it. Which would mean Evans did not see proofs of all the chapters before the book was published. When that letter surfaces be sure to remember this post.
Evans saved every letter written to him about Bix I am sure.
