A "healthy ego" is of course a gentle understatement. I know it will strike some as tiresome to go after Wynton, but . . . even though he has been canonized by Stanley Crouch and Ken Burns, among others, and anointed by Movado, he's still an inferior jazz improviser with a vastly enlarged sense of self. But I think he truly believes that he = Jazz, so that in his signing someone else's recording, he increases its value. It feels more like vandalism to me.
