      I had a discussion about all this with Randy last year. Some here will know that I resigned as director of the Bix Youth Jazz Band after last year's festival in Davenport. One major reason for my resignation was the rather extreme reactions I got to remarks I made concerning race and 1920s jazz while directing the youth band at a concert. I took some delight in seeing that Randy was to conduct a seminar at the festival on this very topic. I'm glad he wrote this book.
