  • Jazz Band del Grammofono, A Pseudonym for the Rhythmic Eight on Italian HMV

      From Enrico in the facebook Hot Jazz page,

      In 1927/1929 Bert and John Firman's "Rhythmic Eight" cut at His Master's Voice studios in Hayes a number of songs by Italian composers.
      These records were issued only for the Italian market under the name "Jazz Band del Grammofono" for the Italian H.M.V.
      The "Rhythmic Eight" sessions featured both American and British musicians who had freedom to solo on these recordings.
      While this record is not listed in Brian Rust's "British Dance Bands on Record", it is documented in the Alan Kelly's H.M.V./La Voce del Padrone Italian catalogue published by Greenwood Press.      Fascinating stuff. Not listed in Dick Hill's biography of Sylvester Ahola.

      Lots of tangos, another one of my weaknesses. Ten titles (some with mustiple takes) recorded in one day!!!
