Gloria Mae O'Dette, age 82, of Davenport, passed away on Tuesday, August 14th at her home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18th at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.
Gloria was born in 1930 to James and Millie Burch in Tipton, Iowa. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Donald O'Dette on May 8, 1949 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death in 1988. Donald was the founder of the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society and promoted the Bix Fest for 17 years, much with the support and help from Gloria behind the scenes.
Gloria also enjoyed working for many years as a waitress, first for the Italian Village, and then later at the Maid Rite in Milan and on Rockingham in Davenport. She enjoyed flea markets and collecting "fiesta wear". She loved knitting, playing bingo, cards, scrabble, and cribbage. She also enjoyed traveling to Chicago and Las Vegas with her sister. Her grandchildren will always remember feeding the ducks with her over the years.
Survivors include her children, Kathy (David) Huff of Davenport, and Donald Jr. of Rock Island, IL; grandchildren, Rebecca, Meredith, Alexis, Samantha, and Jessica; 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, Janice (Jack) Carman of Davenport.
In addition to her husband, Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, and two sons, Kevin and Rick.
