I did indeed have this week off, as Ye Olde Myne had its customary annual shut-down for the week. It's been nice & relaxing.

Had a fine time on the 4th - though my pal Jim seemed to have used WAAA-HAAA-HAAAY to many "mesquite chips" to make the smoked chicken he was busily "tinkering" with whilst I was busy drinking bottles of Zywiec beer.

The kayak excursion was a blast - rain deluge & all. A couple of us rented a pair of 'em for 3 hours from a place that opened up on the city's waterfront. We almost turned back about an hour in when the rain seemd like it was going to turn into a steady downpour, but once the squall blew past, we figured we might as welllive it up, as we couldn't get any more drenched.
We met a bunch of guys from Vermont along the Buffalo River who had just come down from poking about one of those old derelict grain elevators perched on the banks after paddling up the river on kayaks they brought with them - just what I was thinking of doing if I bought my own boat.
