` A guy who sharpened knives for a living perhaps ?
When I was a kid, there was an old guy who pushed a cart around our neighborhood offering that manner of service... ...in the "Space Age" late-60's, if you can friggin' believe it.
I don't think I ever knew what his name was. Come to think of it, I cant remember if anybody ever availed themselves of his services, either. We had one of those electric can openers with the gizmo on the back which spun a pair of grinding wheels which you could sharpen a knife with. I used to like dragging the blades through it just to hear the horrendous shreiking noise it would produce while working.
I also just remembered that the guy who lived across the street from us owned a dog that bit me once. Charged right out of the yard and commenced to start chomping on my leg like it was a chew toy. Don't recall what kind of dog it was - a mid-sized "mixed breed" sort of mutt, I think. The heck of it was, he didn't even draw blood. Must be they made better denim or some damn thing back then.
When I think of the trust fund I could have had from the law suit that would've been filed in this day and age !
Back then...well, we got what must have been a heart-felt apology, I guess. Hard to tell when your a poor traumatized wee bebbeh who should have been made a rich man for his troubles. (LoL)
