My basic understanding is that the there is an
"End of the World" scenario which actually
is solely the end of Donnie's life
and by extension, his world.
How about this:
the movie rotates around the concept that no death/action is random
by showing what the smallest action can have on the entire world,
that by dying when Donnie was destined to (in his room),
he saved the lives of his sister and mother
(who would die after the engine detached),
Gretchen (who would not have met him) and Frank
(who he would kill). Therefore:
a) Did Donnie have any choice in these actions?
Does he actually go back to the time he was supposed
to die with his understanding?
If so, how did he do it? I would assume it was through
the same wormhole as the engine but how could he get to it?
b) Does anyone think that maybe when the Donnie we follow
through most of the film returns to his bed,
the "past" Donnie is outside consulting Frank?
This is unlikely considering the aftermath is different
each run through the scenario in the movie.
Anyone in the mood to tackle these questions?
It is a complicated little gem. |
