Yes, sometimes men's ideas (or rather, their application of God's teachings) do conflict with what was originally meant. I've found peace with my submission and my spirit. There is no longer a conflict within me. I now know that I can have both. I haven't gone to church in years. I won't go until I find one that feels warm. I won't go until I find one that feels like home. I know that God is ok with this, because I know that I don't have to go to church to have him in my life.
